Did you know...
I was born in Charleston, South Carolina…Roper Hospital to be exact, not a cabbage patch as reported previously! I was raised right here Charleston…West Ashley to be exact- former home of the Middleton Razorbacks….Go HOGS…”Roll Bubba!” My parents are Jack and Beth Kennedy. My Dad’s the big voice guy with an even bigger heart that got me into this crazy business. And then there’s my Mom- the most brilliant woman I know that can sniff out a good deal and makes a mean fried pork chop! Together they passed onto me- among other things, a constant need to redecorate and renovate my old house. I have one sister. Her name is Kim and she is older than me. A fact that I don't let her forget ever! She's a nurse and lives here in Charleston. She is an accomplished guitarist, though she'll never let you know it. I'm married to Shawn Keller…some people call him Captain Keller. I call him my better half. He’s a man of conviction that amazes me with his intellect, creativity, and razor sharp wit. Did I mention he’s really tall and handsome too?! He proudly served our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning home he completed Civil Affairs school, is now AIRBORNE certified and attended the prestigious Langauge Institute in Monterey, California. He studied French and now he is fluent in three languages. I'm so proud!
He is now on his second tour of duty with a Civil Affairs Unit in Iraq. His work there is very meaningful and incredibly interesting. If you're not familiar with Civil Affairs work, read the book, WAGING PEACE. It talks about the future of our military and our place in the world and the very crucial role that Civil Affairs will play in it all. He does "hearts and minds" work, helping the Iraqi people rebuild their country through hospitals, schools and the basic neccessities of a civilized world. Again, can you tell how proud I am?! If you would like to read his blog, CLICK HERE!

Our daughter is Sarah Mae- she was named after my grandmother and born in the summer of 2000…my life hasn’t been the same since! She is beautiful and smart and has a real flair for dramatics.
She's an amazing mixture of her Daddy and I. She's an adventurous kid full of energy. She loves to write and participate in many different areas of the arts. She also has been so strong dealing with her father's deployments. I couldn't be more proud of her, even if she has trouble getting her dirty clothes into the hamper:)! We are expecting our second child, a girl, this spring.
My hobbies are cooking, watching old movies, collecting old stuff (I can’t afford actual antiques), writing, and home remodeling…I love the smell of fresh paint in the morning, it smells like victory! My favorite movie of all time is The Sound of Music- I just love that scene where Maria and the Captain sing “Must Have Done Something Good” to each other! I’m also a big fan of Doris Day and Quentin Tarantino…let’s just say I have eclectic tastes. You know how I love TV. Some of my favorite shows are, Lost (I love to be confused), Project Runway (I love to watch the creative process) and Dancing With The Stars ( I love to live vicariously through other’s feet). I also think that Grey's Anatomy has some of the best writing on tv, and some of the hunkiest stars too. When it comes to comedy's, I love The Office and 30 Rock. My family and I love MYTHBUSTERS! The only thing I think I like better than TV is food! I'm a sucker for Italian food, or anything else that tastes great! I love to read about food, to cook food, to watch food on tv, and to eat! I'd love to host a cooking show someday. I've actually done a few cooking dvd's. Email me Alison@WEZL.com for a free copy while they last!
When it comes to music, again, I am eclectic in my tastes. I've been obsessed with Patsy Cline for about twenty years. I also adore Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Suzy Boggus, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Patty Lovelace, Pam Tillis, Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Mercer, Carly Simon, Sam Cook, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Barry Manilow, and the list goes on!
I guess the person that has influenced me the most was my Grandma Theda Mae- who taught me about love and human kindness, and the power of fellowship.
If you asked me my greatest accomplishment I would have to say it is my daughter Sarah, and my marriage with my husband Shawn. I'm also pretty proud of the writing I've done over the years. In particular, my first produced play, Southern Psychology and my children’s book, While You Were Away, Daddy. |

Baby News!
Tuesday 02-26-2008 11:04am ET
So I'm now 7 months pregnant and feeling my age. I laughed when they called me a patient of "advance maternal age," but I'm not laughing anymore! We found out that we're having a girl and although I think Daddy was hoping for a little boy, he's thrilled and my daughter Sarah she's so excited she's about to bust. So now we have to name her. For months my husband refused to discuss girl's names and we were calling the baby "Charlie." Now we know that we're not having a boy and somehow "Charlie" still seems like a good idea, but we've not settled on anything. I'd love to hear your suggestions if you have any. Please email name ideas to Alison@wezl.com.
